Celebrate the little things!

We often are so hard on ourselves or expect way too much. This often causes us to overlook the small wins or the little steps we take that draw us a little closer to that which we have set out to achieve.

I have learnt the art of celebrating small wins that make each day or journey a little more bearable.

Nothing is too insignificant for you to be excited about. If you worked for it, made a few changes or uncomfortable decisions in order to achieve it, then it’s definitely worth celebrating.

Why is it important to celebrate the little things?

When asked why I choose to celebrate the little things, I give two reasons. My reasons are, motivation and bringing things into perspective or reality. These might not be mind blowing reasons, but let me take you through the thought process.

MOTIVATION

When we celebrate the little milestones we achieve throughout our journey it motivates us to keep going. You are able to pause and reflect back on the work and effort you put in to get to where you are. This is motivating for me.

You are able to bask in the glory of your own hard work for a little while and let it pump you up to keep moving. You begin to believe in yourself and little more and trust that you can do more and better.

REALITY CHECK

Big wins will not happen everyday. Big wins are a combination of small wins. If we do not recognise that the small things matter the most, we might get discouraged on the journey because we are too focused on what lies ahead and fail to acknowledge the milestones we have overcome.

Celebrating the small things today gives perspective on how tomorrow will be. It gives us some strength to face a hurdle or failure that might come our way the next day.

It is very easy for one to blow a failure/misstep out of proportion, but so difficult for us to do the same when we actually win. The same energy we use to blow our failures our of proportion is the same energy we need to celebrate todays win.

Everyday is a brand new opportunity for us to do more than we did yesterday. Applaud yourself when you do well.

Look for small improvements, recognise those successes and let them be a big deal!
