Hello and welcome back! I trust by now things have toned down and you are setting up your daily habits to help you attain your goals.
It is important to have a plan, it may be for 1 year, 2, 5 or 10. The inter webs have been raging about the start of a new decade and I too am for it. Many of us have gone through the waves of how ‘adulting is such a scam lol’. Why? Well because 10 years ago we had dreams of who we would be when we were much older right?
Im here to say, we may not be exactly where we want to be now, but we are wiser now right? So, I have put together a few tips about planning for the next decade.
For any journey you, take there is an envisioning stage; and thereafter the journey begins. With perfect vision we are able to manoeuvre through and past any obstacles the journey presents.
The Corporate Millennial
Success comes in different forms for all of us, however the journey to success involves common ingredients.
With that said, here are my few tips for your 20/20 Vision (this can be for your 1; 2;5 or 10 year plan).
SELF AWARENESS
‘Conscious knowledge of one’s own character and life’. Its important to know who you are or at least have an idea of who you want to be and what you are about.
To do this well, constantly ask for feedback, constantly evaluate your decision making. Often we make a series of decisions that do not contribute or move us towards the goals we have set without realising. So, when it’s time to make a decision, evaluate! Your strengths and weaknesses are key in the self awareness journey. A self-aware individual is more likely to set a 20/20 vision that suits them and are able to run with.
CONFIDENCE
I cannot even stress this any further. You have come this far and are still working at being better version of yourself. Be confident in who you are today and who you want to become. Confidence has a magnetic effect. It attracts the right people, the right opportunities and the right decisions. Also it teaches us to confidently own up to our mistakes and setbacks ( commonly and erroneously referred to as failures lol)- you catch my drift? no? okay but yes.
Be confident in who you are and in who you want to become.
PEN & PAPER
Write down your 20/20 vision. I am the typical pen & paper goal setting person. When you write it down, you have taken the first step to making g it happen! I legit believe this. So no matter what the goal is, write it down and set a timeline for it. Yes! but …. see the next paragraph…
REALISTIC
Be realistic! It is Okay to have big goals however, when setting a timeline be realistic. Why? because you do not what to set yourself up for disappointment.
In a year, we have 12 months (as at today we have 11 months 13 days- no pressure); how about you time your goals.
Large corporations, operate in quarters- they set targets and objectives across each quarter. All these are aimed at achieving the big goals. You simply just break them down into simpler and more attainable goals. so Quarter 1 ends March; Quarter 2 ends June (got it?). Similarly, if you’re planning for a decade, break them down 10 yr plan; 5 yr plan; yearly plan etc.
It seems like a lot- you are free to read it again.
FOCUS AREAS
Sometimes the goals are really just muddled up. Set a few themes or key focus areas you want for yourself. Below are my key focus areas:
By doing this, I am able to at least have 1 goal for the things that I consider key during that season. No area goes unattended and you are able to see growth and success from the different facets of your life.
With that said let 20/20 vision be a nudge in the direction for you. May it inspire you to be a better version of yourself and to be successful (in the manner you deem as success).
